Driving in Margarita is relaxed: paved roads, little traffic outside peak hours and signposted junctions, with the only real care being to refuel before heading to remote areas. If you rent with us, we leave your license and documentation neatly in the glove box so you can drive without worries.

How traffic flows on the island

  • Main roads: Avenida 4 de Mayo and the road to Juan Griego; the Pampatar–Porlamar axis carries the peak-hour traffic (7:30–9:00 and 4:30–6:30 pm).
  • Most of the island is fine in a compact car; heavy traffic concentrates at the entrance to Porlamar.
  • Lanes: drive on the right, as in the rest of Venezuela.

Fuel: where, when and what to expect

  1. Refuel in the cities (Porlamar, Pampatar, La Asunción) and before going to Macanao or inland beaches, where stations are few.
  2. Some stations operate on fixed days or hours; ask when you pick up the car and we’ll point you to the one on your route.
  3. The car is delivered and returned at the same fuel level (our policy); you’ll return it with the tank as you received it.

Parking at beaches and town centers

  • Playa El Agua, El Yaque and Parguito: low-cost lots with attendants.
  • In downtown Porlamar choose authorized parking and always lock the car.
  • Don’t leave bags or gear in view; an empty car is the safest car.

Safety on the road

  • Keep license, ID/passport handy and the car’s documentation in the glove box.
  • If a light or road section looks compromised, favor daytime driving for long routes and return to your lodging before nightfall.
  • Any issue on the road: our WhatsApp number is saved and we assist right away, in and out of season.

Express checklist for day one

  1. Pick up the car, check the fuel level and set the return point in maps.
  2. Refuel in town before your first beach stop.
  3. Save the WhatsApp assistance number to your favourites.
